Most of the money that runs HART Rescue is raised by selling horse tack and other animal related products. Most of the tack is purchased used from other horse people but we also take donations from our generous followers of course all donations are completely tack deductible!!! Please contact me if you have any tack you would like to sell, trade or donate to HART Rescue. Don't be shy, we take everything regardless of condition, if we can't clean up or fix the item for resale we can salvage parts especially from horse blankets.

I get such a large amount of tack coming and going that it is too time consuming to keep a list here on the website so please email or call me to find out what we have in stock. There is always a very large selection of all kinds of horse tack. Everything is clean, in good repair and ready to put on the horse.

We get a large booth at the Canby Tack Sale two times a year so make sure to come and visit us in the Ely Arena at the same end as the food vendor and restrooms.

There is always a pile of tack here that is needing cleaned, sorted and priced and of course many MANY horse blankets that need to be scraped out so if you would like to volunteer an hour or so let me know and we can set up a time.

Mom and Baby

Mom and Baby

Mom is a little more refined than the other two black minis, of course since there was an adorable baby in the stall with her to capture all of my attention I didn't get very good photograph of her, sorry about that! Anyway, Mom is very friendly and gentle, she will make a nice mini for anyone. Baby is VERY SHY and had very little handling before arriving at HART. Fortunately, this adorable duo is currently in foster care with a wonderful family that is teaching baby the essentials to be a good little horse.

Little Black Pony with Locking Stifel

Little black pony with clubbed foot. This sweet little FURBALL is a kind, gentle gal. She has a clubbed foot that needs extra trimming to keep in check and severe locking stifles so if she runs around too much she will drag her hind leg for a little while. This is not a painful condition and does not in any way inhibit her quality of life.

Lilapp (pronounced Lap)

Lilapp (pronounced Lap) was a stallion upon arrival at HART Rescue but we all know how I feel about stallions in my barn! He has already been castrated and is recovering quite well. Lilapp was very shy when he got here, would strongly avoid contact and shake with fear when caught. I have been spending a lot of one on one time with the little bugger and he is warming up to people very quickly. My niece is had decided to make Lilapp her senior project. I believe her goal is to train him for in hand trail, in hand jumping, showman and halter, he will then be a very nice, adoptable little guy.

This little gelding needs a loving home with someone that can maintain his manners, he tends to forget that horse teeth should not be applied to people arms and legs. If you are consistent with him, he is fine.

Nemo loves to run and play with the dogs and likes to push the other mares around a bit.

Ranger - Adopted!

Ranger was found wandering loose outside of Yamhill along with his pal Red. After a month of searching for their owners it is assumed they were taken up there and dumped.

This guy has a petite build, I'm guess he is a quarter horse/arab mix maybe and about 14.2 hands. He bosses the other horse around at feeding time but since they have been here with regular feedings for three weeks that has subsided quite a bit.

Ranger is broke to ride but barely, he is quiet and gentle and easy to get along with.

Red

Red was found running loose outside of Yamhill with his pal Ranger. We tried for over a month to locate their owners and have come to the conclusion that they were taken up there and dumped.

This is a nice tall horse 15.2 hands, his head and croup shape hint around that he might have some pleasure type breeding in him some are suggesting Tennesse walker. He always carries his tail up and off to the side, the vet found that his tail has been broken but is is healed and not causing him any pain. He is a sweet, friendly horse and gets pushed around a bit by Ranger. He cribbed when he was in the arena but since I have moved him into an outside pen I have not seen him crib.

Red stood quietly to have his feed trimmed and be saddled. Once I got up on him it became very obvious that the horse is not broke to ride! He was very gentle and quiet while I worked with him a bit, he is still pretty thin so I didn't want to stay on any longer then to just see what all he had as far as training.

Two Horses Found Loose off Turner Creek Road

These two horses were found wandering loose 3 weeks ago outside of Yamhill, Oregon above Pike Road. They are both pretty thin and have long feet but appear to be otherwise healthy and gentle. After the Oregon Statute required 4 week period they will be available for adoption.

I am guessing that they are both broke to ride as they both have white hair scars from poor fitting saddles and cinch galls. Before they are adopted I will of course check them both out in the arena and out on the trail so I can give some sort of idea as to their training.

This is a nice tall horse I'm guessing 15.2 hands, his head and croup shape hint around that he might have some pleasure type breeding in him. He always carries his tail up and off to the side so before adoption he will be check out by the vet to make sure he doesn't have a back or hip injury that will prevent him from being sound. This is a really pretty, barely used roping saddle by American Saddlery. It has full quarter horse bars, a 15" padded seat and nice tooling. It is pretty enough to show in and practical enough to use as a good working saddle.

Headstall with Silver

This headstall has a LOT of silver looking decorations on it. It is NOT real silver and I don’t even think it is silver plate. I would consider this to be a very beginning headstall for someone trying to show on the open/schooling circuit on a budget. I shined it up a bit by rubbing it with a fine steel wool and it looks pretty good. There is a nice gold overlay pattern on the silver and the leather is in good repair, but it is a bit dry. I oiled it some but I think it needs another good oiling. $15.00

15" Barrel Saddle by Saddle King

This is a nice little barrel racing style saddle hand crafted by Saddle King of Texas, it has a 15” sued seat and a 7” (full quarter horse) gullet. The tooling is a combination of basket weave and floral. This saddle has a nice deep seat and a higher back to help keep the ride secure in the saddle and a raised horn for grabbing. This saddle is an older Saddle King model so I think it’s a little better quality then the new mass produced ones of today. $300.00

Vintage Hand Tooled Saddle with Buckstitching

Here is a really nice saddle sold by Montgomery Wards I’m guessing sometime during the 50’s or 60’s. This saddle says Made in Mexico but it was back in the days when Mexican made saddles had some quality to them. The tooling is hand carved in the classic oak leaf pattern, the buckstiching is solid and clean and the tree is sound. It has a 7” gullet (full quarter horse bars) and a 15 ½” suede seat. $300.00

I have a matching breast collar and halter that go with the saddle.

Here is a nice selection of shipping boots. The prices range from $10.00 to $20.00

All of them have 4 to the set (two fronts and two backs) They have all been used, I have washed them all so they are ready to use.

The Weatherbetta set has some tearing on the inside of one of the boots but is still usable as is. The set on the far left is more of a standing wrap then a shipping boot. This set sells new for $70.00

Vintage Ranch Saddle, needs restoration

This poor old ranch saddle has been pretty much used up. The leather is worn, the tooling is barley discernible and the fleece is completely gone. The horn and tree are still sound. You could have it restored or use it as a ranch/western decoration in your house or barn if you like that sort of thing. I've even seen people nail them around the trunk of a tree at the end of their driveway - whatever floats your boat. $75.00

Synergist Endurance Saddle - SOLD

This is an endurance saddle made by Synergist Saddles, they are a very popular maker of quality custom endurance saddles. A new custom endurance saddle from Synergist today starts at $2300.00!!!! This saddle has a 15” seat and a 7” gullet, it is an older model that originally had a horn, the owner cut the horn off and there is electrical tape wrapped around the cantle to tide the hole. That is the only reason why the price on this saddle is so low. If you did a nice leather wrap I think it would look a lot better, I’ll leave that up to the buyer. The saddle comes with a neoprene girth and a sheepskin saddle pad. $700.00

Amber has been returned to HART because her adoptive owner reported she had food agression issues with the goats that she was pastured with. I now have her out with permanent resident Gigi and the two mini donkeys Charles and Franchesca and they are getting along great. I have decided that Amber is going to be a permanent resident of HART so I have plenty of teeny minis for the children to love on.

Number 11 is a sweet tiny mare. Amber (registered as Misty Mountains Surprize Package)(#12 is her daughter) foaled 8/24/88 (yes, that is right! she has the paper. 21 years young) 31 inches light chestnut with flaxen mane and tail Her stomach was thick with huge poop and muds balls that were hard as rocks. She has a potential home.

The Farrier is not sure if Moonshadow’s deformed foot can be corrected. They are now on a 6 wk schedule for trimming. Both girls have had their teeth floated and are eating well. Moonshadow appears to be perking up from her “depression.” When she first arrived she had no energy and seem very sad. Now she runs around the pasture with Fancy.

Shadow and her friend Mariah are at Still Point Farm Equine Hoof Rehab Center. Owned by Dr. Steve Skinner. They are barefoot trimmers and help equines to heal though correct barefoot trimming. After they have completed their rehabilitation they will be returned to HART.

April 25, 2009
Shadow and Mariah have settled in just fine. On Friday Lynda came and did their first trim. She only trim their front feet. We will let their body adjust to that, then on Wes. we will trim up their backs and re check their fronts.

It did take a couple hours to do both ponies. Shadow cannot stand on three legs very long so lots of rest breaks for her. After trimming she got to walk around in her blue galoshes. (Davis boots filled with water and apple cider vinegar) She is still very bright and eating well.

Shadow is a little star! She is still up and moving well even with her awful look feet. All 4 have been trimmed. She eats great and is getting an attitude. She'll pin her ears at Mariah when Mariah barrels though. Sweet with people, but she knows I do her physical therapy on her. She is not thrilled with me rotating her hooves and stretching her legs .... yet. :-) She'll "run" away from me (picture walking as fast as her little legs will go) when she know it is therapy time. I spend extra brushing time after therapy to give her something nice.

Mariah (new name, for now, stinker pot) is a silly pill. She is very smart and has had a few lessons in standing still and having her feet handled. Once she figured out we were not going to take her whole leg off she stood better. Shook the whole time her foot was being held, but really she was trying very hard to cooperate. After her trim she trotted all over in her davis boots. She has a beautiful trot! Even on those ugly feet.

Mariah has been working on being a good pony! Very had work for her. She is so smart and she gives me a run for my money. I am having fun with her. She will let me cup her hind feet and hold them, but to trim ....... that is another story. She does not like you to touch her lower leg or her behind. Cannot blame her. She does not know she doesn't have to defend herself for everything. But she is coming along. Once she trusts she will be a fantastic pony. She did bite me yesterday (got my coat) she got popped once for that. The look she gave me was so funny, you could just see her thinking. Then she laid her head into my tummy. Had to just hug her.

Johnny (Bandit) is recovering well, his one teste was way up in his abdomen and he went through an extensive surgery, but is looking OK this morning.

April 18
Hi Jamie, Just a note to let you know it is a good thing we are keeping the little wild man here, I think he is 90% blind.
He cannot see the feed bucket when I hang it, he searches for it and bangs his face on it. Today after his walk he fell over the black rubber tub that holds his hay, and I can shake my hand in front of his eyes and he does not react.
Once he knows his area, you would never know..but all the signs are there so I will take him back to the vet on Monday and see if he can spot anything. I am not a paint person so I don't know much about their color genes, I know they have odd genes that can do nasty things to a horse.
He will live here

Bandits owner has had a vet out to examine Bandit and he confirmed that is is mostly blind. He has a forever home where he is and seems to be very happy with his new life.

Misti had a vet appointment today and had her teeth floated and two teeth extracted to help straighten the ones left, the vet also did some work on her hooves, hopefully with this dental work Misti will put some weight on her thin body.

Randy (the vet) spent two hours working on Misti. Her mouth was/is a mess. She had too many teeth all crowded in there and the teeth were shoved all over the place, in addition to having lots of sharp points. He ended up pulling out 2 teeth to make more room for the remaining teeth to hopefully eventually come back into line. Then he worked on her front feet for about 45 minutes, taking alot more off. The one edge of one side of her front left had grown completely over the frog, basically the outer hoof wall had rolled over the frog so her sole was not even visible. Now it is visible and looking better from the bottom. Randy said I should de-louse her probably 2 more times because any eggs still left will hatch and there will be a lice problem again, so tomorrow I'll pick up some pyrethrin delicer (louser?) from Countryside - do you want me to pick up up for you, too? I don't know what it costs from them, but probably it is cheaper elsewhere. Randy was wondering what to do for vaccines, and I remembered that I saw the name of the vet clinic who did the initial work on the mini's on Jamie's website, so I called them and asked what they did. They said they only gave tetanus toxoid, which is different from the tetanus vaccine, so all the mini's need a real series of vaccines, of which tetanus is usually included, such as 4-way, etc, and then they'll need boosters.

Misti is going to be sore in the mouth for a few days. I have to irrigate the area where the teeth came out, and give her a little bit of bute for a day or two. Once she heals from the dental, her mouth will feel alot better than it did and her teeth can get a chance to straighten out. Randy said the way her teeth will be growing, he will probably need to shorten two of the teeth in the front every 4 months or so until things look better, but that won't be a big deal and maybe after he shows me what to do, I can do it myself.

Here are some pictures of Misty. She still has not completely lost her winter coat, but she is looking so much better. I can send more photos in a few weeks and hopefully her winter fuzz will be gone. She had her feet trimmed again on Monday.

Got Molly "home" around 10:00 pm, thanks Lucinda for your help with truck, trailer and time, I really appreciate it. Molly got a couple of handfuls of grain standing in my hay barn, it was raining, and then we went to the corral where the goats reside. "Blue" picked up on her right away and nickered to her in the dark, she answered back, and he became very excited jogging in and out of his stall. I got her some hay and opened the window into the barn where she was waiting, she ate a few bites and then was interested in checking out her new digs. She should settle in great tonight with Blue standing guard.

UPDATE
Today Molly had her health check with my vet, she was surprisingly good, even with her teeth exam and float. She only tried to jump over Dr. Scot and I once, considering what he was doing to her mouth, that was pretty good. Her lung sounds were good but hard to hear over her gut sounds. He checked her skin for parasites and everything looked good except for two small patches under her mane where it looked like she had rain rot or something, he cleaned the areas up leaving normal skin. Her eyes were clear and her hooves were in remarkable condition, he cleaned them good and showed me that she had never foundered due to the thin white line on her hoof. He said the ribbing on the front of her hooves did show that her nutrition was very poor about 6-months ago, then improved for awhile, but got worse again, very interesting how you can read that much out of her hooves. Dr. Scot did an interior and exterior probing exam on her mouth and teeth, he said her incisors were spaced properly and were amazingly good for a mini horse. Molly had mild points on uppers and lowers, hooks on 306 and 406 and no wolf teeth, Dr. Scot worked on her teeth doing what he could do with a float, even blunting the two hooks. Since we do not know the extent of the vaccinations Molly has had in her life, we elected to start from scratch and vaccinate her for Tetanus Toxoid, Influenza, Encephalomyelitis, Rhinopneumonitis and West Nile. Molly was also dewormed with a wormer that takes care of tape worm plus other possible worms. Dr. Scot said she is close to a good weight, only needing to gain maybe 10-20 pounds and that if she is getting good pasture, which she is, she should not be given hay in addition to the grass. She does get a little, very little, grain so that I can give her some probiotics. All in all, she is in good shape for all of the abuse she has seen in her 11-years of life.

I do rescue because I love animals, I always have. Rescue is not a business for me, it is just something that I do because I like it and I seem to be good at it. Please rest assured that all horses here are well cared for and will NOT GO HUNGRY if food is not donated. I never take in more then I can handle, the donations just make this a lot easier for me to help more horses and still keep my bills paid.

Although as a general rule I am not very comfortable with accepting donations I know that people just really want to help. I am eternally grateful to all of the people who have come over to help with the maintenance of my rescues and those that have brought up supplies (grain, brushes, lice dust, wormer etc.) Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
